The Brief

To celebrate the release of the final film in the Star Wars saga, “The Rise of Skywalker”, eBay and Disney collaborated once again to bring some magic to a super fan. the brief was to celebrate the sage, reflecting back the joy the franchise had brought across generations and showcase the giant selection of old and new Star Wars memorabilia on eBay.

The Creative

As with previous builds of this scale, there was only one man for the job, YouTube’s own madcap inventor and maker Colin Furze. Colin’s highly engaged audience of 10 million subscribers had loved the other videos in the collaborative Disney / eBay series; building an AT ACT playhouse, a giant Tie Silencer and even a Hydraulic Hulkbuster so we knew we had to go the extra mile for the final instalment. Colin had always wanted to build something that would move, and so Luke Skywalker’s iconic Landspeeder was the natural choice.

I cast father and son Star Wars superfans for the big reveal, demonstrating the cross generational appeal of the Star Wars saga, but it also provided some genuinely sweet and authentic reactions for the big reveal.

The charitable element came from BBC Children in Need who revealed the moving Landspeeder on the live BBC1 show.
